Emergency Preparedness
On Tuesday, the Carlsbad Senior Center hosted a free senior emergency preparedness event. Speakers David Harrison and Mike McMahon, presented information on different types of emergencies, how the city is preparing, and how to make a personal plan. Participants learned how to sign up to receive emergency cellphone and email alerts. At the end of the event, over 70 participants received an emergency “go-bag” with a starter kit, compliments of The Foundation for Senior Wellbeing.
Volunteer Appreciation
Last Saturday, the Carlsbad Senior Center honored the people and causes that inspire community service, with a special brunch at the Crossings. This year, 245 senior center volunteers selflessly donated 10,120 service hours, teaching everything from dance, language and meditation; to serving meals, delivering meals to homebound seniors, fielding questions at the front desk, scheduling bus routes, office work, and assisting with tax returns.
