Welcome Michael Tully

The Parks & Recreation Department is pleased to welcome Park Planner, Michael Tully. For the last decade, he served as a Senior Parks Project Manager at the City of Springfield, MA. Michael holds a Master’s Degree in Landscape Architecture from the North Carolina State University and Bachelor’s Degree in Natural Resources Management from the University of Massachusetts. In addition, he is a certified playground safety inspector and an arborist. We are excited to have Michael join our team!


Senior Prom

On Friday, Sage Creek High School Senior, Valerie Nguyen collaborated with the City of Carlsbad Senior Center to host the Greased Lightening-themed Senior Prom event. Valerie invited Carlsbad’s Seniors to cruise down memory lane into the 1950’s with bebopping and sock hop dances, live music, and 50’s fun and activities. Valerie hosted the dance as her Genius Project, fulfilling the three criteria areas for her project: passion, impact, and challenge. The Senior Prom is designed to provide seniors a first or second chance to relive or experience their high school Senior Prom for the first time. The event is an intergenerational experience for high school seniors and senior citizens, and created lasting memories for all.

Library Holds First Author Skypefest On Saturday, the library held an experimental event where they Skyped with six different authors with an audience of readers. The authors appeared from as far away as India and Alaska and as close as Del Mar and Carlsbad! Everyone enjoyed the convenience of the technology and “meeting” and learning about different books to read.


Library Concert Takes Audience to Ireland On Sunday, the library hosted an early St. Patrick’s Day celebration featuring San Diego musicians Finnegan Blue. Nearly 200 people attended the upbeat performance, which included a mix of Irish tunes, folk and bluegrass music.


Author Talk With Alan Brennert Library goers will “Journey to Hawaii” on Thursday evening as bestselling author Alan Brennert shares his newest book Daughter of Moloka’i, the highly anticipated sequel to his book club favorite Moloka’i. The Cannon Art Gallery will be open for its exhibition Art of the Aloha Shirt, exploring the history and artistry of Hawaii’s enduring fashion statement. The evening will also feature a performance by the Halau Hula 'O Pualani dancers from the Carlsbad Senior Center.
