Welcome New Parks/Trees Supervisor

The Parks & Recreation Department is pleased to announce the hiring of Temujin Matsubara to the position of park /trees supervisor. Temujin joined the department on Dec. 31 and will have primary oversight of the maintenance of our community parks, passive parks, school athletic fields and facilities landscapes.


Temujin comes to us from the City of Vista where he has worked in parks and landscape maintenance for more than twenty years. He began working for the city as a maintenance worker I and most recently served as a parks/landscape inspection supervisor. Temujin’s skills and experience in parks maintenance will be an immediate asset and he will make a great addition to our team.


Temujin is excited to come to work for the city where he grew up and where his family has lived since 1953. Temujin will be introduced to the Carlsbad family in the coming weeks, and we welcome him as a part of the team.


Join the Winter Reading Challenge Reading isn’t just for the summer! This week, Carlsbad City Library joined over 250 libraries and schools nationwide for the Winter Reading Challenge. The Winter Reading Challenge is an opportunity for readers of all ages to celebrate the enjoyment of reading. Readers can sign up for the challenge through Beanstack. Participation is free. Participants will receive a book bag for recording four hours of reading and children and teens will also receive local restaurant coupons for their participation.


Viasat Opens new Facility

Carlsbad satellite internet and communications company, Viasat, has expanded its headquarters in Carlsbad and just opened its new facility last week. The expansion of the campus has been driven by Viasat’s revenue growth over the last few years and the company’s efforts to attract talent. This expansion project added 180,000 square feet in two separate buildings and a new parking structure.
