April is Earth Month and we have sustainable living on the brain. So have a question for you: Why Do You Recycle? To save natural resources? Lower greenhouse emissions? Create jobs? Save landfill space?

Buy recycled – Purchasing recycled products is an important step in “closing the loop” on the recycling process. You are preventing those materials from ending up in a landfill while doing your part to maintain consumer demand for recyclables and ensure the continuation of recycling programs.
Say no to non-recyclables – Do not buy products that cannot be recycled or are hard to recycle. The City of Carlsbad’s purchasing policy strongly discourages buying products that cannot be recycled or composted. Don’t buy polystyrene (Styrofoam) or disposable dishware for your celebrations and get-togethers.
Be smart about printing – Every time you go to print, ask yourself if you really need a hard copy. Save paper, use print preview.
Bring your cup to work – Help reduce waste by using a reusable mug for your daily coffee or tea and a reusable bottle for your water needs.
