Improvements to Building Security

Updated: Jan 29, 2019

New city ID badges are headed your way soon! Your new ID badge will give you an easier and more secure way to gain access to the facilities where you work. No more codes to remember, no need to wonder who is an employee and who isn’t.

Why the Change?

The change is being made to enhance employee safety and building security.

Who is getting the new ID Badges?

· Full-time staff

· Part-time staff

· Some contractors

At this time, the Police Department will not receive new ID badges.

What’s Changing?

All employees will get new ID badges that will unlock doors to secured areas they need to access for their jobs. All employees will wear their ID badges while at work to help us know who’s who. As a bonus, our IT team will use our new ID badge photos and upload into Outlook to use as our profile picture.

Why Now?

Keeping our facilities (and employees!) safe and secure is the city’s top priority. New technology has made managing building security more effective and more efficient. The new cards have an embedded chip that can be programmed remotely, immediately deactivated if a card is lost or stolen and managed to ensure only those authorized can access the city’s facilities.

When is this Happening?

The new ID badges and lanyards will be delivered to department’s administration staff the week of Jan. 28 for distribution to employees. Each department will determine the best way to handle distribution of the cards to their employees. ID badges should be distributed to employees by the end of February. The current door code system will be deactivated in early March.

ID badge access will be available initially at the following facilities:

  • All three libraries

  • City Hall

  • Faraday Administration Center

  • Senior Center

  • Pine Avenue Community Center

Additional ID badge access will be rolled out at other facilities at a later date.

Check out the policy for more details.

Still have questions after you have received your ID badge? We’ve developed a Q&A to help with that. You also can contact your department’s administration staff. If they cannot answer your question, please contact Human Resources.
