The City of Carlsbad wants to be a leader in how we manage employee performance, putting far greater emphasis on employee development and engagement than scores and forms. Engaged employees find their work more satisfying, contribute more and help ensure Carlsbad is delivering the highest level of service to our community.
What is changing?
We will no longer be assigning evaluation scores, nor will annual salary increases be tied to performance ratings. Instead, it is presumed that all employees are demonstrating a high level of competence, and all employees within a particular employee group will get the same salary increase. Employees whose performance is not meeting expectations will be given a plan and expected to improve.
When employees are engaged, they are happier, get more done and are less likely to leave.
