Carlsbad Beach Safety

Southern California beaches can be a source of summer fun, relaxation and exercise, and beachgoers should always be aware of their natural surroundings to make sure they are safe. The seven miles of Carlsbad beaches are patrolled during the summer by State of California or City of Carlsbad lifeguards, who watch out for beachgoers safety both in and out of the water.

State of the City Event, 8/26

Carlsbad residents are invited to a free showing of the 2019 State of the City video presentation, highlighting key projects and initiatives, city priorities and future planning. Immediately following the video presentation, there will be an opportunity to talk to City Council members and staff and ask questions about city topics, current and future projects.

Snores & S'mores Family Campout, 8/10-11

The City of Carlsbad’s Snores & S’mores family campout will be held from 5 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 10, to 9 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 11, at Aviara Community Park at 6435 Ambrosia Lane. Enjoy a night of roasting marshmallows, playing games and watching an outdoor movie, all while camping out in a neighborhood park. The event usually sells out and advanced registration is required by Aug. 9.

Good Life Travel Series in August

Learn how to live your best life. Hear from a variety of experts to enhance your travel experience. All lectures will be held at Carlsbad City Library's Schulman Auditorium, 1775 Dove Lane. Admission is free; seating is first come, first served.

Public Art Unveiling in Carlsbad Village, 8/11

Carlsbad’s latest public art piece will be officially unveiled at Art in the Village this Sunday, Aug. 11. It will be located adjacent to the fountain on Grand Avenue. Create your own art project at Family Open Studios, hosted by the City of Carlsbad Cultural Arts Department. Fun for the whole family!

Registration for Fall Classes Begins 8/14

The City of Carlsbad's Fall Community Services Guide is now available for online viewing, complete with aquatics, dance, fitness, martial arts, preschool and special interest classes. Check out fun things to do around the city, sports leagues for youth and adult, Senior Center activities, special events, cultural arts and library programs and more!

Library Concerts August through October

Carlsbad City Library's concert series continues Aug. 25, Sept. 8 and Oct. 6. Admission is free. Seating is limited and first come, first served. For more information call 760-602-2055 or visit www.carlsbadlibrary.org.


Apply for Parks & Recreation Commission

The City of Carlsbad is seeking residents interested in filling three scheduled vacancies on the City of Carlsbad Parks & Recreation Commission. Applications for these volunteer positions are available on the city’s website or in the City Clerk’s Office, 1200 Carlsbad Village Drive. Applications must be submitted to the City Clerk's Office by noon on Monday, Aug. 26.

Senior Commission Vacancies

The City of Carlsbad is seeking residents interested in filling two scheduled vacancies on the City of Carlsbad Senior Commission. Applications for this volunteer position are available on the city’s website or in the City Clerk’s Office, 1200 Carlsbad Village Drive. Applications must be submitted to the City Clerk's Office by noon on Monday, Aug. 26.


Leo Carrillo Film Festival Begins 8/23

Enjoy nostalgic entertainment under the stars at the 15th annual Leo Carrillo Ranch Film Festival. See rare historic films from the Golden Age of Hollywood featuring Leo Carrillo and others, at the star's legendary ranch. The Leo Carrillo Historic Park, located at 6200 Flying LC Lane, once owned by actor and conservationist Leo Carrillo, features hand-crafted adobe buildings, antique windmills, a reflecting pool and many other beautiful historic structures, and is the perfect backdrop for this free outdoor film festival.
