Carlsbad Triathlon Road Closures, 7/14
The City of Carlsbad reminds drivers that several roads will be closed in and around the Carlsbad Triathlon course on Sunday, July 14, from approximately 6 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Cool off at Aloha Plunge, 7/20
The City of Carlsbad’s Aloha Plunge will take place this year on Saturday, July 20, at Alga Norte Aquatic Center. Enjoy fun, island themed pool games and activities, giant inflatables and key logs and more. End the night with a special Polynesian dance performance where the audience can learn the hula.
Sign up for Citizens Academy
The City of Carlsbad is now accepting applications for its fall 2019 Citizens Academy. The free, seven-week course meets weekly starting Sept. 12, from 5 to 8 p.m., except one daytime citywide bus tour. View the fall 2019 schedule.
Water Notifications Sent
The San Diego County Water Authority issued a public notice on July 8, 2019, informing residents of a malfunction at the Twin Oaks Valley Water Treatment Plant on April 21-22, 2019, resulting in a citation from the state Division of Drinking Water. The water in regional pipelines continued to be safe for all uses due to additional treatment processes that are in place.
Carlsbad a Good Place to do Business, Survey Says
Four out of five respondents said Carlsbad is a good or excellent place to do business, citing quality of life, access to clients and customers, and a solid transportation network, according to the results of a business survey presented to the City Council July 9.
Citizens of the Year Award Ceremony 7/16
Longtime Carlsbad volunteers Yvonne Murchison Finocchiaro and Scott White have been named Carlsbad Citizens of the Year for 2018. The annual award recognizes community members who have dedicated themselves to improving Carlsbad through outstanding service.
Streets Projects Approved
The City Council approved three separate projects July 9 that will improve local roads, lighting and pedestrian safety. More street crossings in Carlsbad will get painted crosswalks and “rapid flashing beacons” installed, which help alert drivers when someone is about to enter a crosswalk.
New eMagazine Service for Library Card Holders
Carlsbad City Library has launched Flipster®, its new digital magazine service. The service is free with a valid Carlsbad City Library card. Flipster offers access to eMagazines such as Forbes, People (English and Spanish editions), Time, Rolling Stone, Sports Illustrated and more.
Save the Date, State of the City Event, 8/26
Carlsbad residents are invited to a free showing of the 2019 State of the City video presentation, highlighting key projects and initiatives, city priorities and future planning. Immediately following the video presentation, there will be an opportunity to talk to City Council members and staff and ask questions about city topics, current and future projects.
Homelessness Response Plan Expanded
With the start of the City of Carlsbad's new fiscal year July 1, additional resources are now available to address issues related to homelessness. The City Council approved the following increases to support the city's Homeless Response Plan, which takes a compassionate enforcement approach.
Take Village H South Online Survey Through 7/28
A community meeting was held on June 29 to gather input on the future use of Village H South from community members. An online survey is now available for those who couldn’t make the meeting or just prefer to provide input online. City staff will present the options they develop with the community for the City Council’s consideration in fall 2019.
Poinsettia Coaster Station Improvements
Daytime and nighttime construction activity is ongoing through Saturday, July 13, to accommodate ongoing platform improvements as part of the SANDAG Poinsettia Station Improvements Project in the City of Carlsbad.

Looking for a way for your child to stay active, make new friends, learn a new skill or just have a blast? Get them off their screens and signed up for summer camp. This year’s lineup includes sports, art, aquatics, specialty and science camps and other programs for kids 3 to 16.
Teen Talent Shows, July and August
Carlsbad City Library is hosting its annual Teen Talent Shows this summer at Ruby G. Schulman Auditorium, located at 1775 Dove Lane. Participation is free and all participants earn rewards. This year the first-place winners of the shows are invited to perform during the preshow before the Aug. 16 performance at TGIF Concerts in the Parks.
