Draft Budget To Be Presented, 5/21
City staff will present a draft spending plan to the City Council at its meeting Tuesday, May 21. Tuesday's meeting will have an early start time of 4 p.m. to allow for detailed presentations about how the budget was created, the city's financial policies, the local economic outlook, proposed changes in spending and how the city involved the community in setting budget priorities.
Commemorate the Poinsettia Fire Anniversary by Making Sure You're Prepared for the Next one
City of Carlsbad first responders commemorated the five year anniversary of the Poinsettia Fire this week by holding a wildfire disaster drill in the city's emergency operations center and reminding residents to double check their own preparedness plans. On May 14, 2014, during an unusually hot, dry and windy morning, a fire broke out off Poinsettia Lane across the street from Alga Norte Community Park.
City Grants Money for Homeless Assistance
The Carlsbad City Council awarded $565,819 in federal grants to help low-income residents during its meeting on May 14, focusing on services and other assistance for the city's homeless residents. The grants, called Community Development Block Grants, date to the Nixon Administration and are provided by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
Hot Rods & Cool Treats Carnival and Car Show, 5/18
The City of Carlsbad is bringing back the past at the Hot Rods & Cool Treats carnival and classic car show on Saturday, May 18, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Pine Avenue Community Park at 3333 Harding Street. Grab the family and come on out for some good old-fashioned fun.
Recruiting for the Senior Volunteer Patrol
The Senior Volunteer Patrol is an experienced group of community members that are 50 years and older, and are looking for a fun and active way to give back to the community. The Senior Volunteer Patrol team supports the Police Department by significantly increasing the department's ability to provide services to the community.
