Carlsbad 5000 on 4/6 and 7, Some Roads Closed

The 34th annual Carlsbad 5000, known as the World's Fastest 5K, returns to Carlsbad this weekend with a 3.1-mile seaside course, Junior Carlsbad races and the All Day 20K. Race events are scheduled April 6 and 7, with some roads closed in and around the downtown Village area.


Apply to Serve on Redistricting Commission

As the 2020 federal census approaches, the California State Auditor's Office is seeking applicants for the 2020 Citizens Redistricting Commission. The 14-member commission will redraw the boundaries of the congressional, state senate, state assembly and State Board of Equalization districts so they reflect the state's population. The open application period begins June 10 and will run through Aug. 9.


New Invasive Weed Species Found in Carlsbad

A new invasive weed species has been identified in Carlsbad and other parts of San Diego County. Ward's Weed is a small compact plant in the mustard family that almost looks like a tiny tumbleweed. It is easy to identify by its small yellow flowers with four petals and unique beaked seed pod.

April is Earth Month, and Carlsbad is celebrating with events and programs to help you reduce, reuse, recycle and more. Participation is free for Carlsbad residents. *Advanced registration is required for some events. Join us and help keep Carlsbad beautiful.

Turn It Up Band Competition for Adults 18 to 25

The City of Carlsbad's Cultural Arts Office is now accepting submissions for its inaugural Turn It Up Band Competition, designed to showcase and help develop emerging musical talent in San Diego County. Online video submissions will be accepted through April 30. Three finalists will perform at Front Row Fridays on June 14.

AMPED Music & Arts Throwdown, Teen Artists Wanted

The City of Carlsbad is collaborating with Carlsbad teens to launch the first annual AMPED, a music and arts throwdown on Saturday, May 11, from 7 to 10 p.m. at Pine Avenue Community Center at 3209 Harding Street in Carlsbad. The event will be a night of creative expression by teen artists featuring a music throwdown, student film showcase, art exhibit and more
