City moves forward to purchase open space near Kelly Elementary

The Carlsbad City Council voted on Tuesday night to move forward with purchasing a 15-acre piece of property, known as Aura Circle, for open space near Kelly Elementary School.

Arts Commission seeking residents to fill three vacancies

The City of Carlsbad is seeking residents interested in filling three vacancies on the City of Carlsbad Arts Commission for the term March 2020 to March 2024. Applications for this volunteer position are available on the city’s website or in the City Clerk’s Office, 1200 Carlsbad Village Drive. Applications must be submitted to the City Clerk's Office by noon on Monday, Feb. 24.

Books & Bingo author event on March 29

Carlsbad City Library is partnering with Adventures by the Book and Novel Network to host Books & Bingo on March 29 featuring eight authors, including New York Times bestselling authors Lisa See and Patti Callihan, as well as other book club favorites.

Coronavirus risk low in Carlsbad, hand washing, other normal precautions best defense

City of Carlsbad public safety officials are closely monitoring developments with the coronavirus outbreak that began last December in China and reminding residents that simple steps like proper handwashing remain the best way to stay healthy:· Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.· Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.· Avoid close contact with people who are sick.

Come see the new art displays at Dove and Cole libraries

The City of Carlsbad libraries offer an active exhibit program with the primary mission of showcasing the work of artists residing in North County and sharing the visual arts experience with visitors of all ages. New works of art are on display for the months of February and March. Dove Library features Bonnie Tucker's collection of artwork An Explosion of People and Color and Cole Library presents the works of fiber artist Carol Lang.

Census 2020 information

Every 10 years, the U.S. Constitution requires a count of the nation’s population to determine the number of congressional representatives for each state. The government also uses census data to distribute an estimated $600 billion dollars in federal funding annually. The next federal census will begin on April 1, 2020.
