Registrar Certifies Election Petition

The County of San Diego Registrar of Voters has found that a petition calling for a special election in Carlsbad’s City Council District 1 has sufficient valid voter signatures, 1,652 or 10 percent of registered voters in the district. A special City Council meeting is planned for Friday, Nov. 8, at 8 a.m. to adopt resolutions accepting the registrar’s finding and scheduling a special election.


Veterans Day City Service Schedule

In observance of Veterans Day, city offices will be closed Monday, Nov. 11. A full holiday schedule for city services is listed below:

City offices: Closed

Emergency services: Regular service

Trash pickup: Regular service, no delay

City pools: Regular hours

Libraries: Closed Sunday and Monday


Clean Energy Alliance Kickoff

The Clean Energy Alliance, a joint powers authority overseeing the implementation of community choice energy, held its inaugural meeting on Tuesday at the Carlsbad City Council Chambers, approving its proposed implementation timeline for a 2021 launch.


Free Composting Workshop, 11/9

Composting at home keeps organic waste out of the landfills and produces high-quality organic fertilizers for our gardens and ecosystems. To help residents compost at home, the City of Carlsbad offers FREE composting workshops and low-cost compost bins to Carlsbad residents.


Free Sustainability Workshop, 11/16

The City of Carlsbad is partnering with I Love A Clean San Diego to host a free Seaside Sustainability Workshop on Saturday, Nov. 16, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. at the Pine Avenue Recreation Center. Through educational booths and hands-on activities, participants who are either beginning their zero-waste journey or who desire to take their sustainability practices to the next level, will learn how to implement more eco-friendly practices into various aspects of their lives.


Commission and Committee Vacancies

The City of Carlsbad is seeking residents interested in filling several commission and committee vacancies, including the Housing Commission, the Community Development Block Grant Advisory Committee, and the Housing Element Advisory Committee. Applications for these volunteer positions are available on the city’s website or in the City Clerk’s Office, 1200 Carlsbad Village Drive.

Input Sought for Community Block Grant Funding

The City of Carlsbad is looking for community input on how to use federal funds that assist low-income residents and communities. These funds called Community Development Block Grants are granted from the federal government and must be used for programs and services to assist low and moderate income Carlsbad residents.


New Arts Venue Recommended

The City of Carlsbad has a need for a 400 to 600 seat flexible performance space that could host local and national performers, festivals and civic functions, a consultant told the City Council Tuesday. If built as part of a new City Hall project, the venue could also provide a space for council meetings.


Assist With the Census 2020

The City of Carlsbad is hosting free workshops about opportunities to assist with the Census 2020. Stop by and learn why your response to the census matters and how you can make extra money while helping your community. At the events, iPads will be available for use to those interested in applying for a census job. Bilingual census workers are in especially high demand.


New Pavilion, Gathering Spaces Open

Park improvements are now complete at Aviara Community Park. The new area is located on a 1-acre site of the park and the new improvements are ideally positioned to take advantage of the outstanding views of the surrounding habitat preserve.
