City Council Workshop, 1/21

Join us for the first City Council Workshop of the year! Tuesday, 5 p.m. at Faraday Center. We'll start with a joint special meeting of Council and commissions to discuss new housing laws and how they will impact Carlsbad. Then we'll discuss budget priorities, our annual financial report, an emergency shelter crisis, and an update on Climate Action Plan and how we are measuring greenhouse gases.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day Holiday Schedule

In observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, city offices will be closed Monday, Jan. 20. A full holiday schedule for city services is listed below:

City offices: Closed

Emergency services: Regular service

Trash pickup: Regular schedule, no delay


Latest Resident Survey Shows Importance of City Issues

Preservation of open space, managing growth and supporting small businesses were among the most important issues to Carlsbad residents according to a new survey presented to the Carlsbad City Council Jan. 14.

Census 2020 Information

Every 10 years, the U.S. Constitution requires a count of the nation’s population to determine the number of congressional representatives for each state. The government also uses census data to distribute an estimated $600 billion dollars in federal funding annually. The next federal census will begin on April 1, 2020.

Carlsbad Marathon, Some Roads Closed

The Tri-City Medical Center Carlsbad Marathon & Half Marathon will take place this Sunday, Jan. 19.

The following streets will be closed from approximately 5 a.m. to 2 p.m. on race day:

· Marron Road between Monroe Street and Jefferson Street

· Monroe Street from Carlsbad Village Drive to Marron Road

· Jefferson Street between Marron Road and Laguna Drive

Annual Homeless Count Volunteers Sought

The City of Carlsbad’s Homeless Outreach Team invites residents to volunteer the morning of Jan. 23 for the annual “Point-in-Time” count, part of a nationwide effort to document the number of people experiencing homelessness.

City Seeking Nominations for Citizen of the Year

The City of Carlsbad is now accepting applications for Citizen of the Year, an annual award recognizing Carlsbad residents who have provided outstanding service to their community. Nominations will be accepted through January 31.


Meet the Author Events, 1/19, 1/27 & 1/30

Carlsbad City Library is hosting three “Meet the Author” events in January. Admission is free and seating is first come, first served.


New Hours and Happenings at Library Learning Center

The Carlsbad City Library Learning Center is now open Saturdays. The Library Learning Center is located at 3368 Eureka Place, across from Holiday Park. Join us for our first Saturday family program, a Lunar New Year Celebration on Jan. 25. Additional volunteer tutor opportunities for the literacy program are also available.
