City meets habitat goal ahead of schedule

The City of Carlsbad will purchase 13 acres of coastal sage scrub as a home for the threatened coastal California gnatcatcher as part of a broader program to conserve natural open space for sensitive plants and animals.

City Council approves five projects to improve safety and slow traffic in neighborhoods

The City of Carlsbad will install “traffic calming” measures in five neighborhoods to slow traffic, following resident concerns about cars driving too quickly in their neighborhoods.

City draining projects will reduce future flooding

The City of Carlsbad will construct new storm drains and repair old drainage pipes around the city to help reduce potential flooding during rainstorms. The repairs and construction will bring aging infrastructure up to modern standards to protect property and the environment, and to ensure public safety.

Questions about new affordable housing project answered

Following resident concerns over a new affordable housing project in the Barrio, the city has worked with the developer to provide additional information about who will live in the 50 apartment units, how residents will be screened, and the level of care and supervision they will have.


Habitat Management Plan meeting on March 3

The City of Carlsbad is hosting its 15th annual Habitat Management Plan public meeting on March 3 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Faraday Administration Center, located at 1635 Faraday Ave. in Room 173B.

Mail ballot drop-off at libraries until March 3

Carlsbad City Library, located at 1775 Dove Lane, and Georgina Cole Library, located at 1250 Carlsbad Village Drive, will serve as drop-off mail ballot locations for the 2020 Presidential Primary Election until March 3. Dove and Cole Library also will serve as polling locations on Election Day, March 3.

Poinsettia Station improvements are complete

Improvements to the Carlsbad Poinsettia COASTER Station are complete.Station improvements include:· Replacement of two at-grade rail crossings with a pedestrian undercrossing that is ADA-accessible and bicycle-friendly.· New longer and elevated platforms to accommodate longer trains and facilitate level boarding.

New utility bill payment website launches March 3

The City of Carlsbad is upgrading its utility bill payment website to provide a new, improved and secure way for Carlsbad Municipal Water District customers to pay their utility bills online.Once the new website launches, all Carlsbad Municipal Water District customers who currently, or would like to, receive their bills electronically and/or pay their bills online will need to register for a new account.

New Exhibit at Cannon Art Gallery opens March 1

The City of Carlsbad’s Cultural Arts Office presents Edges Frayed, an exhibition at Cannon Art Gallery that brings together three Southern California artists: Bhavna Mehta, Michelle Montjoy and Irma Sofia Poeter, in a material-rich conversation about construction and connection. The opening reception on Feb. 29, 5 - 7 p.m., is free to attend and open to all.

Looking for spring and summer camps? This year’s lineup includes sports, arts and science camps and other programs for kids 3 to 16. Spring break camp registration is now open and summer camp and class registration starts March 11.

AMPED music & arts throwdown for teens on Feb. 29

The City of Carlsbad is collaborating with Carlsbad teens for the 2nd annual AMPED, a music and arts throwdown on Saturday, Feb. 29, from 7 to 10 p.m. at Pine Avenue Community Center at 3209 Harding Street in Carlsbad.

Trail volunteer event on Feb. 29

The trail volunteer cleanup event on Saturday Feb. 29, from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m., at Carlsbad Oaks North Business Park Trail will include trail maintenance, shrub planting and erosion repairs. Read more
