29th Annual Fire & Safety Expo and Firefighters Demolition Derby

The Burn Institute’s 29th Annual Fire & Safety Expo and Firefighter Demolition Derby is June 1st, during the San Diego County Fair. This exciting event includes “live” firefighting demonstrations, a fire and burn pavilion, safety demos, a firefighter obstacle course for the kids, and much more, all kicking off at 11 am. The firefighters demolition derby will be taking place in the Del Mar Arena, and is the most popular event among the fire service, giving local firefighters the opportunity to crash for a cause and raise money for the Burn Institute. This year the Carlsbad Fire Department will have two drivers, Engineer Jesse Pinon and Captain Matt Newlin. Most important, Carlsbad is hoping to defend their “Hard Charger” award as the top fundraiser for the event three years running, having raised nearly $20,000. Come cheer on our firefighters this Saturday. The event starts at 2 pm, admission is free with your Fair ticket.

CED Professionals Assistants Academy

The Administrative team from CED attended a two-day Professional Assistants Academy at The Centre for Organizational Effectiveness. This two-day training covered StrengthsFinder, teamwork, time management, managing-up, conflict resolution, customer service, and presentation skills. They were able to gain new inspiration and tap into their natural talents. They identified key factors for supporting healthy teams and common obstacles. Time management tools will help them to analyze how their time is spent and pinpoint areas for improvement. They learned to build organizational trust with supervisors and peers and how to better understand their personal conflict management style. While customer service was covered, they are all so amazing with customer service, they probably had much to share! They did, however, discuss best practices for customer service and the customer experience cycle. Finally, they learned the importance of their personal professional brand and basic presentation skills. All and all they had a fantastic time and the managers in CED are excited to support them as they implement their training! Way to GO TEAM!!
