5 Ways the Communication Department Can Help You

It's 4 p.m. on a Friday, you're the only one around, and Channel 10 just showed up. Do you know what to do? Don't worry, the city's Communication Department is here to help!

No matter what your role, as a city employee, you are an important ambassador, meaning everything you do, what you say and how you communicate sends a message about our organization. That's why the city has a Communication Department. We are here to support staff in putting forth a consistent, professional and authentic message to those we serve.

Changing times

How we communicate has changed so much in recent years, it's nearly impossible to keep up -- unless that's your full time job (BTW that IS the full time job of our communication team).

Top 5 Communication Resources

The city's Communication Department has created lots of tools and resources for city staff to use, and we're developing new ones all the time. Here are our top five:

  1. Templates and style guides that make it easy to produce your own professional looking documents and presentations.

  2. Public outreach and involvement plans that keep your project on track.

  3. Staff training in presentation skills, effective writing, the website and more.

  4. Professional writing and editing to help make sure you're getting your point across to the people you need to reach most.

  5. Graphic design services to give your work the extra polish it deserves.

Meet the Team

We in the Communication Department are lucky because we get to work with city employees in all departments every day. If we haven't yet met you in person, click on the image below to put a face with our names (yes, we are completely nerded out on the Myers Briggs personality trait index and have found it spurs lots of interesting conversations about the importance of bringing different styles to a team!).

Where to Find us

The Communication Department is part of the City Manager's Office at the City Hall campus. Our office is located at 2955 Elmwood St., right next to the community garden, across the street from the rest of City Hall. Please stop by if you're in the neighborhood. We love visitors and you might just snag a city branded promo item for making the trip. Of course you can always email us at communications@carlsbadca.gov.
