Key reminders as we deliver on the strategic plan

Team Carlsbad, hope you had a fantastic weekend and were able to stay cool amid all the heat.

In today’s employee update, I thought I’d share some key reminders along with examples of how you’re continually delivering on City Council’s 5-year strategic plan.

Stay safe online – complete your cybersecurity training

I wanted to take a moment to remind you to complete the mandatory 2024 cybersecurity awareness training as soon as possible.

Hackers are always targeting public agencies like ours, so it’s vital to make sure you are up to date on how to protect our agency from all the ways cybercriminals are trying to access our systems.

  • Never open an attachment unless you can verify the sender

  • Always be mindful of phishing scams in which hackers mimic their emails to look like big companies that you would commonly work with in the course of business

The training is available on Carlsbad Learn. Please don’t wait until the Oct. 13 deadline to complete it.

CMWD staff help secure new grant funds

This summer, the United States Bureau of Reclamation recommended that more than $6 million in grant funding be awarded to support recycled water projects in North County. A piece of that funding is coming right here to Carlsbad.

A big congratulations to all the CMWD staff involved in getting this grant. Thanks to the team's hard work and dedication, this funding will help us expand our recycled water infrastructure, keep rates affordable and support the city's environmental sustainability goals.

Organizational excellence and fiscal health is a key goal of our City Council’s five-year strategic plan, so thank you to all involved for securing these funds.

End of summer bash connects community

Kudos to our Senior Center staff for hosting the center’s first ever “End of Summer Bash” over at Pine Avenue Community Park.

Amid live music, our Senior Center instructors and groups set up tables showcasing current and future programming – for everything from creative crafting and memoir writing to friendship builders and Hawaiian dance.

This is a great way to introduce our community to all that our Senior Center offers as we head into the fall. It also helps build community character and connectedness, another key goal of City Council’s five-year strategic plan.

Taking time to invest in yourselves

While it’s easy to get caught up in the day-to-day, I also hope you can find time to invest in yourselves and improve your skills.

That’s why I wanted to tell you our HR Training and Engagement team recently announced a wide range of programming for September and October, including building Excel techniques, developing leadership skills and CPR. For a full list of trainings, visit Carlsbad Learn.
