Team Carlsbad – Happy Monday! I want to start this week’s update with a friendly reminder to please RSVP by Thursday for the annual employee barbeque on June 27 (details below).
I’ll also of course share some kudos, plus some upcoming opportunities to invest in yourselves over the next month.
Catching up this summer
Our annual employee barbeque is set for Thursday, June 27 at Aviara Community Park. The barbeque is a chance for us to come together as a team away from the office and enjoy our great community together.
If you haven’t already done so, please RSVP by Thursday by accepting the appointment on your Outlook Calendar or emailing Shelby Nelson.
Make sure to let Shelby know if you would like a vegetarian, vegan or turkey option.
Wear your favorite tropical theme shirts. Jeans are also appropriate attire.
Feel free to bring your own lawn chairs or picnic blankets if you prefer that over the benches.
Please carpool, if possible!
Support sustainability
Bring your reusable food ware items and enter a paperless raffle for a chance to win prizes hosted by Republic Services. (Example reusable items may include reusable plates, utensils, water bottle, etc. that you plan to use at the picnic, rather than single use items)
Please bring your own reusable water bottles, to refill as needed. Water dispensers will be available.
I hope to see you there and get a chance to share my appreciation for all you do, day in and day out.
Safety training for the summer
With the official start of summer a few weeks away, our aquatics staff recently took part in their annual safety training at Alga Norte.
Our team practiced rigorous drills and live-action scenarios to prepare for the unexpected. Lifeguards honed their rescue techniques, CPR and first-aid skills, all while participating in realistic emergency simulations.
Thank you to our Parks & Recreation staff and our Carlsbad Fire Department for teaming up to make sure those who enjoy the pools stay safe.
And another kudos to HR for their recent recruiting efforts to make sure we’re staffed and can offer the best and widest range of programming to our community this summer.
Being responsive to community concerns
Staying on top of issues the community brings to our attention is one of the best ways to be brilliant at the basics.
So, a big shout out goes to Transportation Engineer Lindy Pham and Streets Maintenance Worker III Jeremy Bauer for taking quick action to keep our roads free of debris.
A group of community members contacted the city about debris accumulating in an alley in the Village. Our team quickly got the street cleaned, then installed street sweeping signage throughout to ensure routine maintenance.
In the end, a community member wrote in to thank the team for their quick work and gave a special shout out for the fast response. Way to go, team!
Menu of trainings available
This month, our HR Training & Engagement team is hosting a wide range of virtual trainings. While it’s easy to get caught up in the day-to-day, I also want to encourage you to take advantage of these opportunities and invest in yourselves, especially this summer!
