Team Carlsbad --
As we enter the final full month of summer, I wanted to once again share examples of staff continuing to deliver on the City Council’s 5-Year Strategic Plan goals. Thank you for all you continue to do for our community!
City hosts homelessness resource fair
Last month, our Housing & Homeless Services and Library & Cultural Arts teams collaborated with County agencies and other partners to host a homelessness resource fair at the Library Learning Center. At the fair, people experiencing homelessness got access to key services and resources. Reducing homelessness and its impact on the community is one of the main goals of the Quality of Life and Safety section of the 5-Year Strategic Plan, so thank you to the team for continuing to follow through.
Special kudos to Housing & Homeless Services Senior Program Manager Jessica Klein, Library & Cultural Arts Senior Librarian Emily Hardy and Principal Librarian Laura Mendez and for their role in organizing the resource fair from start to finish.
Aloha Plunge earns high praise
Recently, hundreds of community members headed over to Alga Norte Aquatic Center for the annual Aloha Plunge. Parks & Recreation staff hosted Hawaiian and beach-themed pool games and put together even more fun activities on land.
After the event, a community member wrote to the city to praise Team Carlsbad. The community member wrote, “It was great to see interaction of families laughing, playing and swimming together ... Thank you all for making Carlsbad 'The Place to Be!' Keep up the good work. As someone who has put on Special Events for years, bravo.”
The community member gave a special shout out to Recreation Supervisor Rachael Shay and her team -- Claire Beers, Natalie Alegre, Tobias Martin, Carlos Cazares, Jose Flores, and Jake Peterson. Thank you to all staff involved in following through on the 5-Year Strategic Plan goal of maintaining Carlsbad’s unique community character.
Duo earns International Code Council certification
Congrats to Dirk de Roggenbuke and Tim Kersch from Community Development for earning certification through the International Code Council. The designation honors building officials who demonstrate knowledge of codes, which the city uses to help maintain safe and healthy living and working conditions for the Carlsbad community.
Team Carlsbad night at the Padres
On Saturday, members of Team Carlsbad from across departments came together at Petco Park to cheer on our San Diego Padres. I’m glad to report the Padres delivered for Team Carlsbad and beat the Rockies, 3-2!
While it’s easy to get caught up in the day-to-day, it’s always nice to take advantage of opportunities to get to know each other away from the office. I hope you got to meet people from other departments and make new connections. I’ll keep you posted for future similar events.
Take care, stay safe, Go Padres and Go Team Carlsbad!
Scott
