Celebrating Halloween and serving our community

Team Carlsbad --

Let me start by saying what an awesome time I had at our Trick or Treat with Team Carlsbad event last Thursday. Our team brought it big time with all those creative costumes! Whether you dressed up or not, I appreciate everyone who took time out of their day to let loose and get to know members of organization a bit better.

If you want to relive our Halloween event, I’m sharing this slideshow our Communication & Engagement team put together. Thanks again to all who participated and got into the Halloween spirit!

Senior Center staff to the rescue

A big thank you goes to the Senior Center team who followed their instincts to help a community member having a medical emergency.

Recently, our Senior Center Bus Drivers Derrick Crocket and Rosa Ramirez and Recreation Supervisor Andi Koller made numerous phone calls to confirm a scheduled transportation program participant’s reservation. Despite all those calls, the participant never answered the phone.

Concerned about their wellbeing, Derrick decided to stop by the community member’s residence as scheduled. While knocking on the door, Derrick heard the community member call out for help. Fortunately, the front door was unlocked, and Derrick entered the home after hearing the participant say, “Come in!”

Derrick found the community member on the floor with a large bump on their head, unable to get up or stand. Ultimately, Derrick played a key role in helping the community member get the medical attention they needed.

Thanks to Andi, Derrick and Rosa for going above and beyond for your commitment to serving our community members.

Community noticing new freeway signs

Recently, crews from Public Works spread out across the city to install lane markings near Interstate 5 freeway entrances.

The freeway shields give drivers more notice to get into the correct lane to get onto the freeway so they don’t end up making last minute risky maneuvers to get to the on-ramp.

The community is noticing the work, with one person writing in, “I think it is one of the best ideas! I drive a lot for work, and although I rely a lot on GPS, it really is a huge help to look down and confirm I am in the right lane. So, kudos for doing this!”

Double the kudos from me as well. Thank you all for finding new ways to keep our community safe on the roads.

That’s it from me this week. Stay safe, take care and I’ll be back next week with a new round of kudos and updates.
