Hi Team Carlsbad,
This week I’m excited to share some team kudos and highlight an upcoming event and trainings that support both our team connectedness and professional growth and safety.
Carlsbad’s information technology practices a statewide model
The city’s information technology practices were showcased at this year’s Municipal Information Systems Association conference in front of hundreds of IT leaders from around the state.
Specifically, our Information Technology team was featured on three separate presentations on IT strategy, data governance and operational effectiveness. From our brilliance at the basics to industry best practices, there was a lot of interest in how Carlsbad IT makes excellence happen every day in our city.
To top it off, Carlsbad was awarded a 2024 Award for Excellence in Information Technology Practices. This is the second time the city has received this coveted statewide award. Congratulations to our whole IT team and keep up the great work!
Carlsbad service at its finest
I wanted to share a kudos that came into the city recently for Bryan Musser in Utilities, who helped a resident with an issue.
After troubleshooting the problem, the resident wrote to us with very high praises for Bryan, demonstrating how Team Carlsbad’s approach to customer service provides the utmost value to our community and taxpayers. Thank you, Bryan!
Celebrate Halloween with Team Carlsbad spirit
On Thursday, Oct. 31, all staff are invited to join me at the Faraday Administration Center for some Team Carlsbad Halloween spirit!
While costumes are optional, those who want to dress up can participate in a fun costume runway (there may be sweet treats at the end!) We’ll do a little friendly audience choice cheering for:
Best group
Best individual
Most creative (either individual or group)
I understand not everyone may be able to make it, but if you’re dressing up, I still want to see your costumes! Send your pictures by the end of the day Oct. 31 to communications@carlsbadca.gov.
Team Carlsbad Halloween fun
Thursday, Oct. 31, 11 a.m.
Faraday Administration Center, 173 A/B
Costumes and runway are optional
Hope to see you there!
Complete the distracted driving training
Even though we’re no longer in a traffic safety emergency, our Safer Streets Together efforts remain top of mind as we drive, bike or walk throughout Carlsbad. With that, assigned staff need to complete an annual distracted driver training. The formal deadline isn’t until November, but I always encourage you to complete it sooner and not wait until the last minute to complete it.
If you’re assigned, you should have an email from riskandsafety@carlsbadca.gov that has all the details. Thank you for prioritizing the safety of yourself and others around you on our roads.
Other trainings
HR continues to put together a series of trainings to support you in your careers with Carlsbad. Some are live and some are on-demand, meaning you can carve out time on your calendar at your convenience. While it may seem like there’s never really a good time, investing in these resources can streamline your work and give you a boost of confidence.
Sound intriguing? If you watch any of the resources below, I want to hear about it!
Thanks for watching (or this week, reading) my weekly employee updates. I appreciate the Team Carlsbad work ethic and your commitment to keeping our city running smoothly and safely. As we saw from the kudos earlier, your work does not go unnoticed! Thank you! Have a great week and look forward to seeing you soon.
Scott
