Team Carlsbad,
IT is excited to announce the city is upgrading to Windows 11, the latest operating system from Microsoft. Windows 11 offers a modern and intuitive user interface, enhanced security and performance, and new features to boost your productivity and creativity.
To help you get familiar with Windows 11, IT has provided training courses in CarlsbadLearn. You can access the courses at any time and learn at your own pace by searching “Windows 11” in CarlsbadLearn. The courses cover the basics of Windows 11, such as how to navigate the new start menu, use the snap layouts, and customize your settings. You can also use the two links below to access the Windows 11 training courses:
June 5 to July 31 – Optional upgrade to Windows 11 for all city staff
After July 31 – mandatory upgrade
You can perform the upgrade through the Software Center app by opening the start menu and typing “Software Center”. Click on the Software Center icon.
A Software Center window will open with a menu on the left-hand side. Select Operating Systems from the menu and then select Windows 11 in-place upgrade. The upgrade will begin when you click on the Install button.
Why upgrade now?
Upgrading now lets you choose the date and time to upgrade at your convenience
You’ll get access to all the new features sooner
Alternatively, you’ll have to upgrade, and we know that it’s not always the most convenient time when it’s forced
If you are connected at a city facility, the process generally takes about 1.5 hours to complete and 3-4 hours over the VPN while offsite
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact the service desk at 442-339-5555 or open a ticket in ServiceNow.
